The Mace

**The Mace, which in colonial times represented the Sovreign's consent for a House of Parliament or, in this case, the House of Burgesses, to meet.

After the revolution, the mace became an important symbol of authority, albeit not of the royal variety. This explains why the House of Delegates' mace remains out of focus to this day. I am told that the original mace, now lost to history, was always clearly focused in sketches and engravings.
